My Top 5 Makeup Brands

In my last post, I talked about how having a makeup routine has helped my personal life. So, I figured I’d talk about some of my favorite beauty brands that I frequently use.

Because a lot of my makeup products have come from my Ipsy subscription, I have a variety of different products from different brands. But there have been some brand whose products (some of which I discovered through Ipsy) have stood out to me and made me a loyalist.

Disclaimer: I am not being paid or compensated in any way by any of these brands, nor am I making money from any of the links included in the post. I am just sharing my honest opinion on these brands and their products. Although if they wanted to sponsor me, I definitely wouldn’t say no.

Here are my top 5 beauty brands:

  1. Colourpop

Colourpop is my alltime favorite beauty brand for a multitude of reasons. First: Their price point is incredible. When I first started getting into makeup, I ordered some makeup from Colourpop (at least 2-3 lip products and an eyeshadow palette) and spent around $35. It was one of the first “non-drugstore” makeup purchases I made.

Another reason I love Colourpop is that their products are high quality. Their matte liquid lipsticks barely budge in normal conditions. I say normal conditions because I used to work outside in central Florida talking into a microphone and chugging water for 6-14 hours a day, so yeah, I had to reapply my lipstick a few times throughout the workday. Their eyeshadows and eyeshadow palettes are also amazing. I have 5 Colourpop palettes and have no plan to ever buy a palette from another brand. Almost all of their palettes are under $30, so why would I pay more for the same quality? I also have a few blushes and highlighters as well as a concealer and several liquid lipsticks.

Colourpop is also great because they often are putting out fun pop culture inspired collections. I have products that are inspired by and have themed packaging for Disney Princess and My Little Pony. They also have had Disney Villains, Frozen 2, Mulan, and Sailor Moon collections. If you know me, you know I love Disney, and my favorite princess is Rapunzel. I always feel so happy when I wear my Rapunzel inspired blush (Floating Lights) and Lux Liquid Lip (Flynn).

2. Nyx

Nyx is one of those brands I kept hearing about and meaning to try, but forgetting to. What finally convinced me to give it a try was seeing a specific lipstick shade on a YouTube tutorial and being in love with it.

You can find their products at Walmart, Target, and probably in drug stores, but I’m not sure. They’re another great brand that offers high quality products as a lower price point, though I find it to be a little more expensive than Colourpop.

My first product by them was a liquid suede lipstick, which I think I may like better than Colourpop’s liquid matte lipsticks. I honestly forget that I’m wearing any lipstick when I have it on! I also tried their setting spray, which I do really like, and wear on days that I won’t be outside or active too much.

Most recently, I got their Tame & Frame brow pomade and Epic Ink Liner and both are game changers. Usually, I don’t like how dark eyebrow pomades make my brows, and I feel like they make my face look too stern, since I already have naturally dark and thick eyebrows. Their “blonde” shade (blonde eyebrow shades are usually way too light for my brows) works perfectly, and I feel like I finally have my brow game figured out. I love how soft and smooth the formula is, and although I haven’t really gotten to test it beyond quarantine, I think with some powder, the pomade will stay put throughout the day. Speaking of staying put throughout the day, I have some SUPER oily eyelids (what a random and annoying problem to have when living in Florida???) and because of this, have always run into problems with liquid eyeliner transferring onto my crease. Epic Ink Liner is the first eyeliner I’ve encountered that can withstand my oily eyelids and stays put throughout the day.

3. E.L.F

I remember hearing about E.L.F back in middle school/early high school, but never really using their prodcuts. Once I became an adult, I realized that their price point was amazing and started taking advantage of their wide variety of products.

Their makeup brushes are one of my favorites. It helps that E.L.F is sold at Target and Walmart, but they have every brush I need, and they’re easy to grab in a pinch. I’ve also been using their Hydrating Primer for a few years, and I really liked that, but recently just made the switch to the Poreless Putty Primer after a friend recommended it.

4. Tarte

I first discovered Tarte when I got a blush in my monthly Ipsy subscription box. Now, part of this is because I had given my color preferences to Ipsy, but the color was truly my color. It was this beautiful coral pink that was extremely bright when I first put it on, but after blending it, made me glow.

Of course, it has since been discontinued, and I haven’t been able to find a worthy dupe yet.

I also received a bronzer, the cult-favorite Shape Tape, and Maneater Mascara. The bronzer is fine, a little dark for my complexion, but I absolutely adored the Shape Tape and mascara. I never realized just how prominent the dark circles under my eyes can be until I covered them using Shape Tape, and Maneater makes my eyelashes look like falsies. Honestly, I can just wear Shape Tape and Maneater and have a super easy and quickmakeup look. They’re that good.

5. Urban Decay

Okay, so I may or may not have included Urban Decay because of one product: their All Nighter Setting Spray. Ya’ll, I live in Central Florida and worked outside, and because of this spray, almost nothing budged. It’s incredible, and probably the most expensive beauty product that I use, but I keep coming back because it’s that good. Believe me, I am a bargain hunger. If I had found a setting spray that worked nearly as well s this one for a lower price point, I would have made the switch.
